Snake Fencing

In stock

Snake fencing products have been used at nuclear power stations, flood alleviation projects and road and rail schemes across the country. This system suits areas where vegetation management is not possible along the fence line, or where extra height is needed to stop snakes getting through. Herpetosure snake fencing has an above-ground height of 900mm, with panels supplied in three-metre lengths.

This line is supplied to order. Talk to our team for current pricing, lead time and bulk rates.

About Snake Fencing

Snake fencing keeps snakes off a site without needing the fence line kept clear of vegetation, which is why it turns up at nuclear power stations, flood alleviation schemes and road and rail projects across the country. It suits sites where cutting back vegetation along the fence line is not possible, and where extra height is needed to stop snakes getting through. Herpetosure panels stand 900mm above ground and are supplied in three-metre lengths.

Fencing specifications

Temporary fence panels measure 3000 X 1200 X 4mm, in light brown recycled polypropylene. Permanent fence panels measure 3000 X 1200 X 5mm, in the same material.

Fitted measurements

Once fitted, each panel sits 300mm below ground and 825mm above ground. Timber stakes are available to support the fence line.

Fitting description

Panels go into a 300 x 50mm slit cut with a V-backed sub-soiler or “wiz” plough towed behind a tractor. Where the ground does not suit slitting, a chain trencher or mini digger can dig a trench instead, and hand digging remains an option where machinery cannot reach.

Slitting is the preferred method: it gives the best seal and is the quickest to fit where ground conditions allow. Position each panel on the trench side nearest the snake population, or on the inside edge if enclosing a containment area.

Once the panels are in, close the slit by driving back along the fence line with a tractor or vehicle, or by compacting it by hand. This seals the panel against the soil. Overlap panels by 50mm and secure the joint with aluminium blind rivets, then support the run with stakes. Trim panels down, or increase the overlap, to follow uneven ground or contours.
