Coir Rolls

In stock

Pre-established coir rolls, pre-planted with a native UK wetland species mix so the plants are already rooted and growing when they arrive. They stabilise banks and control erosion straight away, while the roots filter water and create habitat from day one. Establishment is quicker than bare-root or plug planting, with less aftercare needed. Enquire below for specification, plant availability and bespoke mixtures grown to order.

About Coir Rolls

Pre-established coir rolls are made from densely packed, natural coconut fibre (coir), formed into robust cylindrical rolls for erosion control. Ours are pre-planted with a mix of native UK wetland species, so they arrive already rooted and growing rather than as bare fibre. That cuts the establishment time you would normally get from plug or bare-root planting, and gives visible cover and habitat value from the day they go in.

What the pre-vegetation gives you

  • Bank stabilisation from day one. The established root systems anchor the soil straight away, which matters on rivers, lakes, ponds and drainage channels where scour and wave action can strip a bare bank before planting has a chance to take.
  • A working wetland faster. The plants are already photosynthesising and taking up nutrients when they arrive, rather than needing weeks to establish before they start doing anything.
  • A mixed native planting. Each roll carries a blend of UK wetland species, giving cover for amphibians, aquatic invertebrates and waterfowl rather than a single-species stand.
  • Water filtration from the outset, as the roots and foliage take up excess nutrients and help improve water quality in the surrounding watercourse.
  • A biodegradable base. The coir itself is a natural, biodegradable material that breaks down over time rather than leaving synthetic netting behind.
  • Less aftercare. Because the plants are already established, there is less early weeding and nursing than with bare-root or plug schemes.

Typical uses

  • Riverbank stabilisation
  • Lake and pond edge restoration
  • Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), including swales and basins
  • Reedbed creation and enhancement
  • Wetland habitat creation
  • Erosion protection for attenuation ponds
  • Biodiversity net gain (BNG) projects
