Floating Islands
In stock
Biohaven Floating Islands are buoyant, planted platforms for UK ponds, lakes and watercourses. A permeable root mat below the waterline takes up nutrients from the water, while native planting above gives cover for waterfowl, fish, amphibians and insects. Suited to garden ponds, commercial lakes, SuDS schemes and conservation sites. Enquire below for sizing, plant options and a quote.

Biohaven Floating Islands are buoyant, planted platforms designed for UK ponds, lakes and watercourses, from domestic ponds to commercial lakes and public waterways. Below the waterline, a permeable root mat gives space for plant roots and micro-organisms to take up nutrients from the water; above it, the planting itself adds structure and cover at the water’s edge.
What are Biohaven Floating Islands?
Each island is a robust, permeable platform that floats on the water’s surface and carries a mix of aquatic and semi-aquatic plants. The islands work in a similar way to a reed bed or a natural wetland margin: the root systems below the surface filter the water, while the platform itself creates a habitat that an open pond or a hard bank cannot offer on its own.
What they do for a pond or lake
- The dense root systems take up excess nitrates, phosphates and other nutrients from the water, which can reduce algal blooms and improve clarity over time.
- They give nesting, foraging and refuge space for waterfowl, insects such as dragonflies and damselflies, amphibians and small mammals.
- Fish use the root structure below the islands to spawn and shelter, which helps support a healthy population in ponds and lakes that would otherwise offer little cover.
- Planting can be chosen from a range of native UK species, so the islands add a natural look to the water body rather than a fixed structure.
- The islands are made from durable, recycled materials, in keeping with the ecological purpose of the product.
- Because they sit on the surface and move slightly with the water, they help dissipate wave energy at the bank, which can reduce erosion on water bodies with fluctuating levels or boat traffic.
- Installation is straightforward and the islands need minimal ongoing maintenance once established, on both private and public sector sites.
Where they’re used
- Ponds and lakes, to improve water clarity and attract wildlife
- Commercial and public water bodies, including golf course lakes, park ponds, attenuation basins and waterways needing ecological restoration
- Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), as part of a wider design to support water treatment and biodiversity
- Wildlife reserves and conservation areas, to create new habitat or extend an existing one
- Fisheries, to support fish populations with cover and improved water quality
