BFS 8 is a high-nutrient wildflower grassland mix bred for sites where vigorous grass growth would otherwise crowd out flowers. Its 14 wildflower species include tall growers and scramblers such as meadow vetchling, chosen to hold their own against grass competition. Sow at 3g/m² with 50% wildflowers (14 species) and 50% grasses (6 species).
This high-nutrient wildflower grassland mix suits ground where soil fertility supports strong grass growth, since an ordinary meadow mix can lose its flowers to grass competition on this kind of site. Its wildflowers grow tall in the sward or scramble up grass stems, meadow vetchling being one example, so they can hold their place among more vigorous grasses. Sow with at least 50% wildflower content to give the flowers a fair start.
It is a colourful mix with a long flowering period, and it supports wildlife within the meadow sward. During the initial establishment period (4-6 years), graze or mow lightly and remove the cuttings; this helps reduce fertility. Once fertility has dropped through this management, you can move up to a higher-diversity mix, such as BFS 1 Traditional Hay Meadow Mix.
Sow at 3g/m². The mix is 50% wildflowers (14 species) and 50% grasses (6 species).
All seeds in this mixture are subject to availability at the time of purchase.
