Rough hawkbit is a native perennial wildflower of the daisy family, named for the coarse, forked hairs that clothe its leaves and stems. It forms a rosette of roughly hairy, lobed leaves, from which single unbranched stalks rise to bear solitary, bright yellow, dandelion-like flowerheads.

Rough hawkbit is a native perennial wildflower of the daisy family, named for the coarse, forked hairs that clothe its leaves and stems. It forms a rosette of roughly hairy, lobed leaves, from which single unbranched stalks rise to bear solitary, bright yellow, dandelion-like flowerheads. The buds typically nod before opening, straightening as the flower unfurls.
It is a plant of dry, neutral to lime-rich grassland, especially chalk and limestone downland, hay meadows and pastures, and prefers open, sunny, well-drained ground. Flowering through the summer and into early autumn, it is an excellent nectar plant and has been rated among the most productive meadow perennials for pollinators, drawing bees, hoverflies and butterflies. Found through much of England, Wales and southern Scotland, it is a classic ingredient of wildflower meadow mixes, particularly those designed for chalk and limestone soils.
