A hard-wearing grass seed mix for UK camping and caravan site pitches, developed for holiday parks and touring grounds under constant footfall and vehicle use. The blend combines amenity and creeping perennial ryegrass, red fescue, hard fescue and smooth stalked meadow grass for fast establishment, sustained wear tolerance and natural self-repair where pitches see the heaviest traffic.

Phoenix Amenity Camping and Caravan Site Premium Grass Mix is a seed blend for UK holiday parks, caravan sites and camping grounds. It establishes quickly, holds up under heavy pitch traffic through the season and repairs itself where wear concentrates, such as around awning pegs and entrances.
| Species | Proportion | Primary role |
|---|---|---|
| Amenity Perennial Ryegrass | 40% | Wear resistance and rapid establishment |
| Creeping Perennial Ryegrass | 30% | Lateral spread and long-term sward repair |
| Strong Creeping Red Fescue | 14% | Density, fine texture, and recovery |
| Hard Fescue | 10% | Drought tolerance and low fertility performance |
| Smooth Stalked Meadow Grass | 6% | Rhizomatous spread and deep wear recovery |
Amenity perennial ryegrass is the wear-resistant base of the mix. It germinates quickly and can give usable ground cover within days under good conditions. Its robust leaf structure and strong tillering habit let the sward withstand continuous foot traffic, vehicle movements and the concentrated ground pressure typical of pitched caravan and motorhome sites.
What sets this mix apart for pitch use is the creeping perennial ryegrass fraction. Unlike standard perennial ryegrass, which relies on tillering alone, creeping types spread by lateral stolons that colonise worn or bare areas. That self-repairing habit matters most on pitches with concentrated wear, such as around awning pegs, entrance points and service pedestals, where conventional mixes thin out and fail.
Strong creeping red fescue adds density, fine leaf texture and lateral spread to the sward. Its creeping rhizomes knit the turf together, which improves surface uniformity and cuts the risk of bare patches under repeated use. It also copes well with the range of soil conditions found on UK caravan and camping sites, including slightly acidic or lower fertility ground.
Hard fescue brings strong drought tolerance and persistence in low fertility conditions. On open sites exposed to drying winds and summer heat, it holds colour and density where other species may show stress, cutting the irrigation needed during dry periods and keeping input requirements low.
Smooth stalked meadow grass is slow to establish but highly persistent, spreading by underground rhizomes. Once established, it gives long-term stability and helps the sward recover from deep-seated wear. It works best in areas under concentrated use over multiple seasons, where it rebuilds sward density from below.
25–40mm. Keep the sward at this height to encourage tillering and lateral spread from the creeping species, which supports density and wear recovery over time.
Late summer to early autumn (August–October) is the preferred sowing window, giving the grass time to establish before the following season’s peak use. Spring sowing (March–May) also works well where soil moisture can be maintained.
