False Fox Sedge
False fox-sedge is a native, tussock-forming sedge of damp and disturbed ground, found in wet meadows, ditches, marshy field corners, pond margins and along tracks and verges, and is notably tolerant of brackish conditions near the coast. It grows as a dense clump of bright to yellowish-green leaves with stout, sharply three-angled stems, topped by a crowded, branched head of brownish flower spikes that gives the plant a slightly bristly, fox-tail-like appearance.

It grows as a dense clump of bright to yellowish-green leaves with stout, sharply three-angled stems, topped by a crowded, branched head of brownish flower spikes that gives the plant a slightly bristly, fox-tail-like appearance.
It favours heavy, moist, often clay or base-rich soils in full sun or light shade. The solid tussocks help bind damp soil and offer shelter for ground-dwelling invertebrates and other small wildlife. Hard-wearing and adaptable, it is a useful component of wetland and damp-grassland seed mixes, swale and ditch planting, and habitat restoration on heavier, seasonally wet ground.
