Sedum anglicum Huds.

English Stonecrop

English stonecrop is a small native succulent of rocky and sandy ground, especially common on the coast and in the west and north of Britain, where it colonises cliffs, walls, shingle, dunes and thin acidic soils over rock. It forms low, spreading mats of tiny, fleshy, greyish-green leaves that are frequently flushed pink or red where the sun is strong, helping it survive heat, wind and drought.

About

English stonecrop is a small native succulent of rocky and sandy ground, especially common on the coast and in the west and north of Britain, where it colonises cliffs, walls, shingle, dunes and thin acidic soils over rock. It forms low, spreading mats of tiny, fleshy, greyish-green leaves that are frequently flushed pink or red where the sun is strong, helping it survive heat, wind and drought.

Through early and mid summer it produces small star-shaped flowers with white petals delicately backed in pink, set just above the foliage and visited by bees, hoverflies and other small insects. Tough, low and evergreen, it suits rock gardens, gravel, green roofs and crevice plantings, and is well adapted to exposed maritime and acidic sites where richer, taller plants cannot establish.
