Cut-leaved crane's-bill is a common native British annual named for its deeply and finely divided leaves, which are cut almost to the base into narrow segments. It is a low, often sprawling plant carrying small, paired flowers of bright pinkish-purple with notched petals, followed by the long, beak-like seed capsules typical of the crane's-bills.

It is a low, often sprawling plant carrying small, paired flowers of bright pinkish-purple with notched petals, followed by the long, beak-like seed capsules typical of the crane's-bills.
Widespread and easy-going, it grows in arable fields, gardens, waste ground, road verges, rough grassland and other disturbed, open places on a wide range of soils. It flowers over a long season from late spring into early autumn, roughly May to September, offering pollen and nectar to bees, hoverflies and other small insects. Although often treated as a weed of cultivation, it is a useful nectar source and a natural component of disturbed-ground and arable-margin floras, where it establishes readily from seed.
