How does it work?

MO Bacter is an organic based lawn feed that works for up to 100 days, releasing nutrients evenly over a 12-week period.

The active ingredients are Nitrogen, Phosphate and Potash (5-5-20 + 3%MgO), plus the bacteria Bacillus sp, which occurs naturally in soil. Added to a fertiliser, this bacteria helps break down dead material such as thatch and moss. The potash content is also what breaks the moss down: the moss overfeeds on it, and that overfeeding destroys the whole plant.

This indirect action against moss reduces the chances of reinfection, so there is no need to scarify the moss out, and it does not turn the moss black. Unlike other fertilisers, MO Bacter will not stain paths, stonework or patios because of its organic nature. It is also safe to use around animals and children.

How long does it take to work?

Once applied, the moss takes around 14 to 21 days to turn a light brown colour. At that point there is no need to rake the dead moss out. It will slowly disappear into the thatch layer as the millions of bacteria in MO Bacter digest it, turning it into healthy plant food that helps revitalise the lawn.

When should I use it?

MO Bacter is best applied in spring and summer to eliminate existing moss, or in late summer and early autumn to check its growth over winter. For best results, apply when the ground temperature is around 5°C or higher.
